Forests have always served as recreation areas in our culture. But in current times they are used for sport activities more and more. At the same time the forests are used commercially. With the profits out of selling timber forest trails can be built and maintained. So the other uses can be made possible.

As usual in Germany, there is a law to regulate the peaceful coexistence of all forest users.

In the following you will find an extract from the law for entering the forests. We shortened the text of the law in order to prevent you from being bored.

To enter the forest

To enter the Forest according to § 25 Law for forests (Waldgesetz für das Saarland, LWaldG)

  1. To enter the forest is allowed to everyone who is seeking recreation in harmony with nature. To ride a bike, to wheel a wheeling chair, as well as horse riding is allowed only on ways and roads. Ways according to this law are ways which are not ment for public traffic, but durably constructed  and maintained or used as agricultural road (width at least 3,5 m);
    Tracks for machines, forest rides, structuring lines for forest management, as well as foot paths are  not ways.  
  2. Labeling ways as special walking, riding or biking tracks is only allowed with the approval of the forest owner. The labeling does not bar any other usage.
  3. You need a special allowance from the owner of the forest for:
    1. Entering closed forest parts and forest ways,
    2. Entering forest plantation, freshly planted areas, facilities for foresting and hunting, as well as areas where wood harvesting is in progress,
    3. Parking and driving vehicles moved by motorpower,
    4. Driving carriages and dog teams,
    5. Camping in the forest,
    6. Carrying out organized events in the forest with a commercial character and
    7. Riding a bike or riding a horse aside of ways and roads.

  5. To enter the forest is at your own risk. There is no reason or any special care concerning traffic security.  Everyone who uses the forest has to behave in a way that doesn´t disturb the life and work in the forest, doesn´t damage, endanger or pollute the forest and doesn´t disturb others seeking recreation.

Winter in the forest

The winter 2009/2010 has been very rich of snow, espacially in January. Great to have time for walk in the forest in this time.

But the game has lots of problems to find enough food under the snow. The wet and aold weather affords more energy than usual.

Everyone who laves the nature takes care not to disturb the game. This means to look for your dog exceptionally and not to leve the ways.
